Ch. 01 Poker Syndicate The Room

The Room

Most rooms are built for the hand. This one is built for the night.

There is a difference between somewhere you can play poker and somewhere you want to still be sitting at three in the morning.

A player seated at the table in low light, hands resting over a short stack of chips.

Built for the ninth hour

The light is set for long sessions rather than photographs. The chairs were chosen by people who have sat in bad ones. The kitchen stays open as late as the game does, and nobody will ask you to settle up because the hour has become unreasonable.

You will notice all of it eventually. You are not meant to notice any of it at first.

Step inside the room

A player holding two cards at the table, the room’s ceiling lights behind her.
The room at eleven. It looks much the same at three.
A player resting against the high back of one of the room's leather chairs.
Elite seating. An unglamorous line item, and the one regulars mention first.
Ch. 02 Poker Syndicate The Standard

The Syndicate Standard

Six things we will not leave to chance.

Every room says it is run well. Very few will tell you what that means. These are ours, in writing, on a page you can send to someone.

01

The deal is straight.

A member of the floor watches every table, every hour. Collusion carries a single penalty and it is permanent. There is no version of this we are relaxed about.

02

The dealers are trained.

Nobody deals a live table here until they have been certified on pace, protocol and precision. A good dealer is invisible. That is the entire job, and it is harder than it looks.

03

The rules are published.

Our complete house rules live on this website. Read them before you arrive if you like. Nothing is decided at the table that is not already written down.

04

You are paid immediately.

Colour up, count down, and you are paid. Not tomorrow, not after a call, not once someone comes back. Before you reach the door.

05

Everyone at the table is verified.

Government ID at the door, eighteen and over, every visit. Including the people you arrive with. Especially the people you arrive with.

06

We know when to stop.

Set a limit and we will hold you to it. Ask for time away and it is arranged in a sentence, without a conversation you have to justify.

Ch. 04 Poker Syndicate The First Night

New to the room

Nobody's first hand was played well.

Two players side by side at the table mid-conversation, chips stacked in front of them.

If you have only ever played online, or at a friend's kitchen table, the first live session is the one that puts people off. Where to sit. What to say. How much to bring. Whether everyone will know.

They will not know. And on the small tables, half the room is closer to your first night than they would admit.

Tell us it is your first visit when you book and someone will meet you at the door, walk you through the room, and sit you at a table where the stakes and the pace suit a first evening.

What your first night looks like

Ch. 05 Poker Syndicate The Circle

The Circle

A room is only as good as the people in it.

Founders, bankers, students of the game, and one chess professional who counts cards the way the rest of us count change. We are careful about who sits down. It is the only thing that actually protects a game.

Meet the circle

A player sitting back in low light, one hand resting over their cards.

The table is set. The rest is up to you.

Reserve in under a minute, or call the floor and speak to someone who is standing in the room.
